ALIGN

A venn diagram of our cellular selves
we overlap more easily
with those we are more alike
clearly, right…?
it seems simple
but
at times
the past pulls us back
and our sentimental hearts
are not rational thinkers
they do not understand
what makes sense
even though we are certain we know
whats best

we see the potential in a person
the way we see potential in
an object
[some future value, “x” or “ex”]
a piece of clothing, fabric
a vintage car, a piece of property
but people
are more complex
and while we see what they could become
someday>
we must face the thing in front of us
squarely
like a blank piece of paper
inviting us to draw the line
or a screen, waiting to show us what lies ahead
and before it happens we
float parallel
in the universe
unaware of the existence
of each other
or our unknown variables

searching the space that is just beyond
we work equations constantly
mentally attempting to solve
to understand how to be
more now, less wh(y)
and find an addition that works
until eventually
we multiply
