you will always remember the first

the first person, the first time, the first experience. the first time you came to understand something.

you say you will never drink the koolaid, as you take a long sip of the cool liquid. we all get thirsty. sugar. water.

years of conditioning — hell, it only takes a few weeks, really. you get deeply immersed, blinded, by accident. depending on your makeup, of course. and then. snap. you’re doing something you’re saying you would never do. you’re doing it right now. are you much different?

words. these words we say. we say. we do. we throw away cents and sense. we know little, we know nothing. we know less and less as we get older. we make mistakes, and. . .  the more we speak? we wish we could rescind that last statement, but only long after the conversation ended. we play pretend. we play dress up. pretending to be adults. pretending to be people. trying on the skins of who we would like to be, someday.

d0 you remember?

do you remember the first time?
